Bob Dalsemer - Down Yonder

Transitional/Western 1950s

Bob Dalsemer calls the well-known singing square dance Down Yonder at the Dare To Be Square weekend held November 18-20, 2011, at the John C. Campbell Folk School, Brasstown, NC. Bob credits the Handy Square Dance Book (Cooperative Recreation Service, Delaware, OH, 1955, p.146) as his source.

Musicians are Steve Hickman and Jim Morrison, fiddles; Claudio Buchwald, piano; Sam Bartlett, banjo, with Phil Jamison, banjo, and Larry Edelman, guitar, sitting in. Footage of the musicians begins at 2:45. The tune is "Down Yonder."

The weekend was sponsored by the Folk School and by Country Dance and Song Society. It brought six well-known callers and 70 square dance enthusiasts together to explore many different styles of squares, including both traditional and modern.
